Music Session with Stephen Bull

Born in Belfast in 1959, Stephen trained under Rita Sharpe, Yfrah Neaman, and Nona Liddell in London. During the 80s and 90s he performed and recorded with most of the "early music" orchestras in London - The Hanover Band and the London Classical Players, to name a few. In the late 1980s, he developed a deep interest in South Indian classical music, studying in London with Dr. Lakshmi Jayan and later in Madras with Lalgudi Jayaraman. He performed with renowned musicians like Karaikudi Mani and V.S. Narasimhan. In 2007, he began learning Hindustani music under Subhra Guha. Under her guidance, with inputs from Pt. Vijay Kichlu, Stephen has been developing a repertoire of Hindustani music with Portuguese texts, since 2011, with a small team of musicians.
