Artist: Argha Manna is a cancer biologist turned comics artist. He explores the historical perspectives of scientific development and social issues through the lenses of an artist and researcher both. Argha is chiefly interested in making bridges between academic research and visual storytelling. He runs an online platform named Drawing History of Science where he blends his passion for science, history, and comics. Alongside working as a practicing comics artist Argha teaches science comics and visual storytelling at different institutes as a visiting faculty. He is a visiting artist 2022-23 at the Fluid Dynamics of Disease Transmission Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He recently joined as the first Artist-in-Residence at IIT Gandhinagar.
Session Summary: In this session the participants will learn the background process of making a comics/ graphic novel. It will be a two hour session including a short talk followed by an interactive jamming session. In the talk the instructor will bring up some pivotal moments from the history of comics. The participants will get a summarized idea of what are the internationally acclaimed comics/graphic novels including and beyond superheroes from Marvel and DC. Alongside the basic grammar of making a page of comics/graphic novels will be discussed.
